About the Music Department at Egglescliffe
Egglescliffe’s nationally recognised Music Department consistently delivers outstanding results and experiences for students. In the most recent year:
- Nearly 50% of GCSE Music students achieved Grade 9, with 80% of A-level students achieving A/A.*
- In recent years, fourteen students progressed to study music at conservatoires or universities, including Oxford and the Royal Colleges, with many securing prestigious scholarships.
- A wide range of high-level ensembles operate across all year groups, supporting students’ musical development and participation.
Our amazing Music Department has:
- A thriving, highly successful department with large class sizes at GCSE and A-level.
- A strong, highly experienced team, including three classroom teachers, and a large team of specialist instrumental and vocal tutors employed directly by the school.
- Over 300 students receive individual instrumental and vocal lessons weekly, supported by instrumental tuition across our feeder primary schools.
- A dynamic extra-curricular programme with outstanding ensembles, annual musicals, and large-scale concerts, including collaborations with professional orchestras and world-class musicians.
- A key partner in the Gabrieli Roar programme, performing in prestigious venues such as York Minster and Durham Cathedral, alongside professional ensembles like the Royal Northern Sinfonia.
About the Role
We are seeking an outstanding, ambitious, and highly experienced music educator to lead our Music Department into its next phase of excellence. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to take full leadership of a nationally renowned department, ensuring that Egglescliffe’s reputation for musical excellence is not only maintained but continually enhanced.
The successful candidate will oversee:
- The strategic leadership of music at Egglescliffe School and Sixth Form College.
- The design, implementation, and oversight of the music curriculum across all key stages, ensuring academic excellence.
- The management and development of all music staff, including classroom teachers and instrumental/vocal tutors.
- The extra-curricular programme, ensuring high-quality ensemble opportunities, concerts, and performances.
- The instrumental and vocal tuition programme, ensuring that students have access to a rich and diverse range of musical learning.
- Partnerships with local primary schools, external music organisations, and national institutions.
- Budget and resource management for the department, ensuring sustainability and continued investment in music provision.
